Description
The Resistance Heating Alloys are divided in two major groups:
- Ferritic Aloys, Iron-Chromium- Aluminum, (FeCrAl-KANTHAL) and
- Austenitic Alloys, Nickel-Cromium (NiCr, Nicrothal).
Other Alloys, as for example Cupper-Nickel, are used for lower operating temperature. Ferritic Alloys (FeCrAl) have maximum operating temperature in air of 1425C while Austenitic Alloys (NiCr) have maximum temperature of 1200C.
KANTHAL produces several qualities of Ferritic Alloys in various forms, like wire, strip and ribbon. The most commonly used are:
KANTHAL APM: Up to 1425 °C (2560 °F). Normally used in furnace applications.
KANTHAL A-1: Up to 1400 °C (2550 °F). Normally used in furnace applications.
KANTHAL A: Up to 1350 °C (2460 °F). Is used for appliances, where its high resistivity and good oxidation resistance are particularly important.
KANTHAL D: Up to 1300 °C (2370 °F). Employed chiefly in appliances, its high resistivity and low density, combined with better heat resistance than austenitic alloys, make it suitable for most applications.
Thermansys is not the producer of these wires. For more information about KANTHAL resistance Alloys please visit producer internet page at: https://www.kanthal.com/en/products/materials-in-wire-and-strip-form/wire/resistance-heating-wire-and-resistance-wire/ or download directly the related KANTHAL brochure in pdf form: “Resistance heating alloy for electric home appliances”
NOTE: Original KANTHAL A1 wire standard produced diameters ranges from 1.0 to 10.0 mm. For KANTHAL wire diameters compatible with rebuildable atomizer coils (e.g 0.3mm, 0.35mm, 0.4mm) please select KANTHAL A.
IMPORTAND NOTE: KANTHAL resistive wire distributed by Thermansys is considered as a raw material for various heating applications. The proper and safe operation of heaters or other heating modules, constructed by end user, like coils for rebuildable atomizers, depend on a lot of design parameters and are totally on the responsibility of the end user. Thermansys cannot guaranty proper or safe operation. Properties of the material and guidelines for use are given by the producing company at “Resistance heating alloy for electric home appliances”.
